"... If we fail, we may lose a generation" (US Visa Waiver Program)

Once again, it's nice to see our ideas being picked up elsewhere.
Reinforcing the message of TI director Ziba Norman's article about the US Visa Waiver Program ("VWP") How to Lose Friends and Influence Nobody (TechCentralStation, 20 October 2005) (http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=102005E), an International Herald Tribune piece, Europeans fear 48-hour notice plan will impede travel to U.S. (IHT, 17 June 2007: in print edition of 16/17 June 2007, entitled U.S. weighing stricter travel rules), (http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/06/17/news/visa.php), quotes the Polish ambassador Janusz Reiter on stricter travel restrictions imposed by measures currently moving through Congress:
Poles need "proof that this is a fair relationship," said Janusz Reiter, the Polish ambassador to Washington. "I'm afraid that if we fail, we may lose a generation."
Poles, who can now travel and work across the EU, would turn against the United States, traditionally regarded as a friend, Reiter said.
The Polish ambassador identified the symbolic aspect of the relationship as more important than the practical.
